Smart Commerce Conduct First Employee Survey

Jena, 14th May, 2014: Positive results confirm the Smart Way

  • Employees gain materially and immaterially
  • Above-average results in all four categories
  • "Employees like going to work“

In March 2014 Christoph Klein, Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, carried out the first employee attitude survey on corporate culture of Smart Commerce. The aim of this study was to investigate the "Smart Way" with regard to employee-related features and to review the "Smart Way". Smart Commerce wanted to find out to what extent the goals associated with the "Smart Way" are achieved.

With the employee survey as a tool of participatory management, potential improvements in the concept of the "Smart Way" should be identified. Basis of standardized survey forms is the "Likert scale", a psychometric scale commonly involved in research that uses questionnaires. Four categories have been used and indicators per category have been determined: 1) General questions, 2) People development, 3) Job satisfaction and 4) Employee participation. The meaning of “employee participation” includes tangible as well as intangible participation in the company.

The listed graphics show the results of the employee survey on a scale of 1 to 4 (1 = bad, 4 = good). Each of the four categories is rated by the employees above average and in comparison to other employers Smart Commerce performs much better. With a value of 3.37 the “job satisfaction” has been assessed most favorably. Employees of Smart Commerce are not only shareholders but also co-entrepreneurs of the company. For example, they are involved in strategic decisions via the general assembly meeting and their employee representative in the Supervisory Board. These democratic forms of participation of the Smart Way can lead to significant economic success, such as the first full financial year 2013 shows.
