At present, the product range of the multichannel retailer BAUR Versand consists of fashion, shoes, furniture and furnishing accessories. Target group are customers with high demands on quality and service. By now, over 80 percent of orders at BAUR Versand are placed over the internet. The eCommerce platform has strict guidelines for user friendliness and data security and in addition to BAUR.de is also used by six further clients including Quelle.de and Universal.at.
The company BAUR Versand has realized several projects with Smart Commerce. The initial platform selection was based on the proven Forrester Research structure and terminology for the requirements catalog, decision criteria, weighting, and scoring matrix. The procedure was based on the "Methodology for Tendering and Evaluation of IT Services of the Federal Ministry of the Interior" (UFAB V). The assessment of the individual e-commerce platform providers yielded specific value points, which, in combination with the separately determined total costs of ownership, yielded the key figure Z as a cost-benefit ratio. The customer benefit of this project was an objective, transparent and comprehensible assessment of the e-commerce platform alternatives and identification of the most economical alternative.
Specification of the migration
The specification of the eCommerce platform migration to Intershop 7 had the priority to achieve and, where possible, overachieve all previous eCommerce KPIs. In addition, the rich feature set of Intershop 7 should be used to a maximum extent. The future use of this new platform by new tenants should allow for rapid roll-out of this as well as rapid and highly synergistic delivery of optimizations across all comparable tenants. The customer benefit from this specification was in the transparency regarding the scope, the costs and the duration of the migration project.
Empiriecom IT target image
The project Empiriecom IT architecture concept has developed a new IT target architecture for the e-commerce platform of the BAUR and UNITO Group. The objectives of IT were broken down into the areas of target architecture, services and IT projects and recorded in an "IT score card". Smart Commerce supported the customer with technical consulting by experienced IT architects. A new concept for the front-end layer ("Common API") as well as for the backend layer ("Managed Services API") has been developed and agreed upon. The customer benefit from the project consisted in the creation of a new architecture base, which is suitable both for long-term sustainability and for the best possible migration of existing clients in the short and medium term.
